WPB

Abbreviation of the U.S. World War II period agency, the War Production Board, which was established in January 1942 to direct war production and the procurement of material.  It converted and expanded the peacetime economy to maximize war production. During its three years of existence, the WPB supervised the production of $185 billion worth of weapons and supplies. It was abolished in November 1945. 1
