UNRRA

Abbreviation for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, an international organization founded in 1943 to provide aid to areas liberated from the Axis powers. More than half of its funds were provided by the United States, with the rest coming from 52 other participating nations. UNRRA discontinued its operations in Europe in June 1947 and in China in March 1949. Its functions were transferred to a number of other United Nations agencies.
