CPUSA

Abbreviation for the Communist Party of the United States of America – the name of the Communist party in the USA since 1930. Founded in 1919, the party has a long history of struggle for a broad social and economic agenda in the first half of the 20th century – as well as a history of persecution as a “subversive” organization.

The CPUSA is still based in New York City, publishing its newspaper, the People’s Weekly World (originally The Daily Worker) and its monthly magazine, Political Affairs Magazine. In 2006 it donated its archives and library to the Tamiment Library at New York University in order to preserve its history and make the collection available to researchers, students and the public.
