Leading Soviet aircraft designer. More than 100 civilian and military planes bore references to his name (ANT and TU), including the ANT-25, which was flown by Valery Chkalov in 1936 and Mikhail Gromov in 1937, in their famous flights from the USSR to the United States via the North Pole.
