SVR

Abbreviation of the Russian name of a successor agency to KGB foreign intelligence – the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (Sluzhba vneshnej razvedki Rossijskoj Federacii – SVR RF) , which is the keeper of the records of its predecessor agencies. The agency has existed under this name since December 18, 1991. The SVR’s central headquarters is a tree-lined compound in Jasenevo, Moscow’s southwestern district. This headquarters is sometimes nicknamed “Wood” (Russian “les”) by its inhabitants and journalists.
