SSSR

Abbreviation of the Russian name of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Soyuz sovetskikh sotsialisticheskikh respublik), the name of the Soviet state from 1923 to 1991. In English the term is USSR. The SSSR consisted of 15 union republics, each with its quasi parliament, government and official language.
