Sima

An NKGB-MGB foreign intelligence cover name which appears in 16 cables (from July 20, 1944 to July 5, 1945) partially decrypted in the course of the Venona operation. In late 1948 or early 1949, “Sima” was identified by Venona translators as Judith Coplon, an employee of the U.S. Department of Justice, who was later convicted in two separate trials in 1949 and 1950. Both convictions were later overturned on appeal.
