Abbreviation of the Russian name of the Russian Communist Youth Alliance (Rossiiskii communiisticheskii sojuz molodezhi, commonly known as Comsomol), which was established in Soviet Russia in October 1918; in 1926 it was renamed the VLCSM (the All-Union Leninist Youth Communist Alliance.)
