Abbreviation for Narodnyi komissariat inostrannykh del (The People’s Commissariat of Foreign Affairs), the name of the Soviet Foreign Office from 1917 to 1946. It was known as NKID RSFSR from 1917 to1922 and NKID SSSR from 1923 to 1946.
