Gennadij [Gennady]

An NKVD foreign intelligence cover name of the Soviet intelligence officer Gajk Badalovich Ovakimyan, who was posted in the United States from July 1933 to July 1941 and went on to head the American department at Moscow Center. “Gennadij” appears in three cables (from May 4 and December 4, 1944 and July 5, 1945) which were partially decrypted in the course of the Venona operation. He was identified by Venona translators as “Gajk Badalovich Ovakimyan.”
