Abbreviation of the Russian name of a successor agency to KGB – the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (Federal’naja sluzhba bezopasnosti Rossiskoi Federatsii – FSB RF.) It exists under this name since April, 1995. Since 1992, its previous names were: The Federal Counterintelligence Service (FSK), December 1993-March 1995; The Ministry of Security of the Russian Federation (MB RF), January 1992-December 1993.

FSB is a centralized system of federal security agencies, including counterintelligence, anti-crime and anti-terrorism, border control and informational security. Its central headquarters is the famous KGB building in Moscow Lubyanka Square.
